FIBERSHIELD - Rolling Fire Curtain

Bolton Gate, the acknowledged leader in the field of fire door and curtain technology, introduces a much-improved version of the FIBERSHIELD rolling fire curtain, a product designed to overcome the restrictions of other types of fire doors.

The FIBERSHIELD curtain has been successfully tested to BS 476 Part 22 1987 for two hours fire resistance at the Loss Prevention Council laboratory and has been assessed for oversize constructions up to 30 metres wide x 10 metres high by Warrington Fire Research. Larger curtains have been supplied and are available against individual letters of assessment.

The Product offers major advantages over traditional steel shutters and other door types allowing building design new horizons in terms of fire compartmentation.

Hundreds of buildings worldwide have benefited from its inclusion as part of their fire protection and the Product is unequalled for its ability to provide peace of mind whilst remaining unobtrusive in the ceiling.

STANDARD SPECIFICATION

Curtain/Bottom Rail
Specially reinforced and coated grey fibre-glass material approximately 0.7mm thick and weighing 650 gms per m2 which withstands temperatures of more than 1000 degrees C. The curtain is looped at both ends to fit around a mobile rod within the side guide to avoid deflection. The material is attached to the roller at the top and to a steel bottom rail which is formed to create a slim-line soffit with no visible fixings when in the raised position.

Guides
The side guides are roll-formed from galvanised steel and prepared for fixing to the opening structure by non-visible bolts. The guide incorporates a unique retaining rod to ensure the curtain is always engaged in the guides and has been reduced in size to 105mm x 74mm.

Casing
The casing is manufactured from galvanised steel and is available in three different sizes dependant upon opening height. It may be soffit or face fixed to the structure either directly or by means of drop rods allowing services to be routed above.

Roller
The roller is manufactured from mild steel tube of sufficient diameter and wall thickness to resist deflection and is mounted in bearings on each end plate.

Operation
The curtains are electrically operated as standard using a range of 240 volt single phase Speedsafe motors which incorporate an electro-magnetic brake, adjustable limit switches and a built-in control panel.

The design incorporates a gravity failsafe system and dual activation devices as standard with normal activation in fire conditions via an auto re-set solenoid which, on receipt of a 24 volt DC fire signal, releases the motor brake and allows gravity closure with a controlled descent.

As a back-up device, a fusible link is also incorporated into the system which closes the curtain when localised heat reaches 68 degrees C. In all instances, closure is effected with a controlled descent.

The standard system is pre-wired in our factory to avoid the costs of site electricians and merely requires a 13amp three-pin socket within one metre of the motor position.

Each shutter is individually operated from a low-level surface mounted key-switch.

Finish
The guides, bottom rail and casing are supplied galvanised as standard. They are also available in stainless steel and polyester powder coated in a range of standard RAL colours at extra cost.
